Ever notice how the world today is now one big noisy party? I mean, compare thing to how it was years ago and you will see that the type and level of noise being generated today is on a much bigger scale. It's not hard to see that this is so because of the advancement in technology. Speakers have gotten bigger and louder, tools and equipment have gotten more advanced and sophisticated, and what is the solution to all these? Noise-canceling headphones 馃槄
I have gotten used to certain levels of noise which is probably due to the environment I grew up in. The big boys in my house back then were always blasting music through their speakers, so with time I also joined them. This article is about noise pollution but unfortunately, I'm also guilty of it 馃榿 in fact, right now I'm playing music through my portable Bluetooth speaker but it's on a very low volume because it's currently night over here but during the day, it's much louder.
But I never let it get too loud to the extent that it's unbearable to people around. I mean, I'm always going to be the one closest to the speaker, so I can always tell if it's too loud and reduce the volume which is something a normal person should do. Where am I going with all these? Back in my house at the university, my room is right next to some guys who enjoy playing loud music and as someone who also plays loud music, theirs is very loud and terrible!
The music from their room is so loud that I have never heard anybody play songs at such loud volume except at nightclubs and parties. These guys have home theaters (unlike the small Bluetooth speaker I have) and they usually play music up till 2 a.m. Sometimes I just start wondering how they could stay in the same room as the loud music because whenever they open their door, my heart starts pounding fast because of the heavy beats of the music they are playing.
The worst thing is that nobody was complaining about the whole thing, and why would they even complain? Most of the other neighbors are also noise makers, so I guess in a way they also enjoy the loud music but for me that is directly next to the source, it was unbearable. One day, I woke up to the loud music around 7 a.m. and I was frustrated at that point because I didn't get much sleep the previous night, I was working on a project and slept very late hoping to just use the opportunity the weekend provided to sleep that morning.
But my sleep was cut very short by the noise makers, so my roommate and I decided to confront them. We didn't want any problems, so we politely told them to reduce their music because people were trying to sleep. They reduced it a bit and even though it was still loud, it wasn't as unbearable as before. But the next day, the loud noise continued and I just gave up at that point. They kept on disturbing the whole house every day with their loud music until another neighbor clashed with them.
It was on one faithful night and as usual, the noise makers were blasting music from their speakers. I started hearing someone yelling and I rushed out of my room to see what was happening. I met one of my neighbors quarreling with one of the boys from next door, and she was complaining about how she couldn't read because of the loud music (it was exam period). I and some other neighbors intervened and asked the boys to reduce the volume of their music or just turn it off.
They obliged and reduced the volume. Throughout that period, they didn't play music as frequently as before and even when they did, it wasn't loud. But when exams were over, they continued with their loud noise (the problem is like that virus that refuses to go away 馃槄). I just had to tolerate it for a few more weeks before I traveled back to my parent's house.
The issue started just a few months ago when the guys moved in and luckily for me, I have now graduated from the university. Those guys still live in the house but it's no longer my problem because I don't live there anymore. Where I currently stay is a very quiet neighborhood, if you drop a pin during the day, it will echo all through the area. I like to think that I'm the major noise maker around here with my little Bluetooth speaker, it's a lot better than those noisy neighbors I stayed with up until a few weeks ago.
