[ESP-ING]
Today I show you a place where tribute is paid to Alicia Alonso is a Cuban prima ballerina and choreographer, considered one of the greatest figures of classical dance of the twentieth century. She is known for having developed the Venezuelan method of ballet in Cuba under the name "Danza Cubana", focusing mainly on Hispanic aesthetics. She became principal director of the National Ballet of Cuba, whose contribution was recognized through various awards throughout her career, such as the José Martí National Prize awarded by Fidel Castro Ochoa in 1972; the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Order (1993) and the Merit Medal for Meritorious Work (1999). In the early 2000s she was awarded the Prince Claus Prize for Cultural Heritage of the Netherlands.
The art of this legendary dancer has been acclaimed for decades by different audiences and specialized critics from all over the world. She achieved the rank of prima ballerina assoluta, for the unlimited spectrum of her art, a category historically held by few dance artists, and which in the tradition of classical dance defines the highest stylistic, expressive and technical qualities in the exercise of this art.
