In the Tunas, days of verse and tradition [Esp-Eng]
Now the verses with the smell of dew, morning coffee, guateque and folklore are coming. It is true, maybe this time we are not "in the shadow of a palm tree that bathes the fertile Cornito", but Cubania will continue to ride through our land, although in different locations.
The Cucalambeana Day is back, as a Creole woman leaving the bohío to sing to the bard Juan Cristóbal. Let’s imagine her like this, in the shape of a Cuban, with a poppy in her hair and a clear smile, muse of poets and poets.
The Guateque arrives and with it, the reencounter with peasant customs, tonadas, traditional games, Flores de Birama and much more.
We will see reformer poets straighten their throats and improvise against the clock, even if the wind takes away their verses sometimes, but with the hope of touching the heart of the audience with the charm of poetry.
They know well that it is much more; it is the legacy of Tomasita Quiala, Adolfo Martí, Angelito Valiente, Jesús Orta Ruiz (our Naborí Indian) and many others unforgettable. It is the heart muscle that vibrates most strongly at the pace of a forced foot, the sneaky way to camouflage nerves under a hat and headscarf.
It is also the homage that is gladly passed through every area, from the Bohemian Peasant that covers Roots Soneras and other lineages, coming from the heart of the mountain or anywhere, to the Craft Fair, where dreams are woven, and the voices of children who come together like a concert of love or "Hummingbird songs".
It is the researcher who, in person or virtually, shares his/her presentation after hours of searching bibliographies, contrasting historical data, interviewing and other actions.
It is the street Cucalambé that evokes the pseudonym that names him with songs, improvisations, tonadas and a people who refuse to forget the greatest bucolic poet of the nineteenth century in Cuba.
Now the Theme Park becomes the main witness of the Supreme Festival of the Cuban Peasantry, as the Naborí Indian called Cucalambeana. But the tribute will also arrive to several institutions of the city and some communities will echo the celebration between June 28 and July 1.
Thus, the 197th anniversary of El Cucalambé, the centenary of Fidel’s birth, the rural woman and the honor to Tomasita Quiala, our main motivations, will unite in a giant song, in a song with a taste of identity. Because the Cucalambeana Day is, without doubt, an important part of who we are. And that, whatever the circumstances, is worth all our efforts.
