All sports are deposits of history. In the course of historical development, many sports are moving towards scientific and rational, and human nature is changing.

The sport we want to talk about today has a long history, and it is a technical and complex competitive sport - high jump. But what I want to say here is the assistant equipment "high jump pole" used in high jump.

The high jump pole, which is a pole for jumpers to jump over a high railing, has changed a lot in the development of history.

  • wooden pole
The use of wooden poles began in Ireland in 554 A.D. and became a true track and field sport in England in 1843. The wooden poles used at that time had many shortcomings. If the high jump wanted to cross the railings easily, it needed a certain amount of run-up and flexibility of the high jump poles.

At that time, the wooden pole was not only very elastic, but also easy to break, which was not conducive to high jump.

  • Bamboo pole

The emergence of bamboo poles has changed this situation. Bamboo pole has a certain elasticity, which also promotes the development of elevation movement. But the bamboo pole is easy to break, once the bending degree of the bamboo pole is too large and the weight of the athletes is too heavy, it is very easy to break.

02

  • Metal rod

The appearance of metal pole makes up for the shortcomings of bamboo pole, which is not easy to break and has certain elasticity. With the increase of the holding point of the high jumper, the bending range of the metal pole increases, so the elasticity increases.

In 1957 and 1960, American athletes B. Gutovsky and D. Bragg set new world records through metal poles. Metal poles play a milestone role in the development of high jump, but they have not been popularized.

  • fiberglass rod

Fiberglass rod is the last stage of the development of high jump pole. The advantage of fiberglass rod is that its strength is very high and its elasticity is very good. As long as the movements are mastered properly, the high jump with fiberglass pole can create very good results. American athletes B. Stonberg and J. Pennell have jumped 5.13 meters and 5.20 meters successively.

Fiberglass pole is also the standard high jump pole used in the international high jump movement at present. The appearance of fiberglass pole has greatly promoted the development of high jump. The performance of high jump has also been greatly improved by the use of fiberglass rods.
