Es la historia de Elizabeth Crocus, una joven aristócrata, hija mayor de lo Crocus una familia prestigiosa y reconocida de la ciudad, encargada de apoyar y llevar a cabo todo lo que sea correspondiente de la familia, sin queja alguna y haciendo creer a los demás que lo único que le interesa es ser una aristócrata rica y poderosa, siendo esto falso pero visto de otra forma en los ojos de los demás, pese a ello Elizabeth sigue cumpliendo sus obligaciones sin importar lo que digan y piense los demás, solo lo que le afecte es por parte de su familia, los cuales idolatran a su hermana menor quien por ser la más delicada de salud cuando nació fue la que más se cuidó y presto atención además de su hermano, ella fue la que menos prestaron atención.
Pero por giros del destino, Elizabeth decide tomar el rumbo de casarse con un duque que solicita unirse con alguien de su familia, por términos políticos, pero el detalle con él es que se considera como el “Monstruo del Norte” lo cual para ella no resulta mal, porque ella también es juzgada como la villana de su ciudad, por ende unirse con alguien categorizado así no importaba ello, pero no todo es lo que parece y a conocer a Ren el duque de Winternight el supuesto monstruo, entiende que las cosas no siempre son lo que los demás dicen y comienzan una buena relación como futura pareja casada.
Aunque no todo resultará tan sencillo, porque la vida en Winternigth es una lucha constante contra el invierno ya que existe un grupo que quiere congelar y dejar hundidos en una profunda nieve por lo que la vida de Elizabeth se volverá una aventura y lucha por poder salvar no solo a su nuevo hogar, sino a todo el reino, así mismo, descubrir su relación con este grupo en cuanto a su físico y poder, de la misma manera lo que le ha ocasionado con su familia, por lo que le permitirá entender más lo que ella es y lo que representa.
Es una historia en el que la familia no siempre resulta ser su gran apoyo, en que los hijos deberían ser queridos por igual, que, aunque uno parezca más fuerte e independiente del otro no tienes que hacerlo a un lado, y en el que el cariño y amor por otros que no tienen algún lazo sanguíneo contigo puede llegar a ser tu salvación y nueva familia que te hará sentir que tu existencia tiene un sentido.
