Greetings
@theanimerealm community, today I come to bring you a very emotional anime with a “realistic” tone that is worth watching, but I think only once, because if you are one of those sensitive people who can't stand sad outcomes. Even so, it is one of the few anime that touches on natural disasters and the situations that unfold in them, so I recommend you take a look.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (東京マグニチュード 8.0) …
Released in 2009, it is an original series directed by Masaki Tachibana and the animation studio BONES Kinema Citrus. It is a drama, tragedy and adventure genre.
As for the plot…
The story focuses on siblings, Mirai, a first year high school student who loves to be on her cell phone all the time, and Yuki, her younger brother, who is a third year elementary school student and has a passion for robots. This passion will make both children go alone to a robot convention that will be held in the city of Tokyo.
The little girl was with her cell phone in a free space, where she wrote on it “that she wished the world would end” when the inevitable happened at that moment. A devastating earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Ritcher scale shakes the entire city, toppling large buildings, lifting floors and claiming numerous lives in the process.
After the disaster, Mirai sets out to look for her sister, who minutes before went inside the building that has now collapsed. With the help of Mari, a motorcyclist who was in the collapsed building, she helps her find her little brother.
After so much searching, he manages to find him alive under some rubble, now these three will set out to go to his family, interacting with others affected by this tragedy and trying to cope and survive the subsequent replicas that will occur throughout the story. Will these little ones make it home safely? Will their family be okay?
Personal opinion
I feel that it is this type of series that touches your heart, because the events they narrate can happen to you, even if you wish it were so, nature has its own decisions, so it is this type of story that makes you understand that you must be prepared for any unforeseen event, because such eventualities can occur at any time. The seriousness that becomes the plot, I feel that is one of its great virtues, that introduces you or rather, makes you feel part of the disaster, so it may not be very talked or commented this anime, for those sensitive issues that some want to avoid.
I must be honest, I was curious about why an anime with this theme, something that had not happened at the time I saw it and is that, by God, reviewing the history in Google, Japan has really been affected several times by these disasters, even 3 years after (2011) that this anime was released, an earthquake of 9. 1, leaving not only great material losses, the human losses were in quite high numbers, in addition to the missing people; and I must point out that I do remember this fact, how terrible it was along with its devastating tsunami.
So, at this point I must consider it as a jewel, which plays with emotions and suspense very well, it is not a linear and harmonious plot, well executed (in some aspects), although there are certain weaknesses such as the length of the story, that is, it takes many turns, or certain factors that took into account when these disasters happen, well I must say that they are not variables that subtract points to the dramatic atmosphere in which it is endowed, it draws much attention.
Positive points…
-The history
-The setting
-The emotions it handles.
-The realists he gets to do and how he handles people's relationships and reactions to these disasters.
Negative points…
-There are no tsunamis in that story, usually after an earthquake of that magnitude, the tsunami comes afterwards.
-The many replicas that occur throughout the plot, I do not know if there are so many, so rather than a negative point, it is an unknown.
-The sad events that occur.
-It drags out the story longer than necessary, but it's not that bad either, and the music may not have matched what is going on very well.
Score I give it…
9.5/10 Story │ 8/10 Animation │ 7/10 Sound │ 8/10 Character design │ 8.5/10 Overall.
Watching videos of that moment of the earthquake in Japan, how they educate them to keep calm in those events, is admirable, but I think that no matter how much you educate someone to keep calm, you never know how to act in these events, what is always to have everything at hand, emergency equipment and so on. This anime is quite dynamic, with an approach that appeals to the emotions and real events, so it is worth watching it, of course, have your heart prepared.
