I was really drawn to this anime because it reminded me of *Bungo Stray Dogs*—what with the theme of people with powers and all that—though, of course, it is completely different. Even though it was easy to lose the thread of the plot at times, it turned out to be quite entertaining. I don't think the story actually reached a proper conclusion—if I recall correctly, there were lingering plot holes, especially regarding the mystery of the portal and how it opened in the first place. However, I read somewhere that the story isn't trying to solve that mystery; instead, it focuses on "how to survive the chaos" and "how to protect what we hold dear." That unanswered question simply becomes part of the city's fabric and represents how humanity must keep moving forward amidst the absurdity. In other words, leaving that question unresolved is entirely intentional, as the series is built on the concept of controlled chaos, where the big questions remain part of the universe's enduring mystery.

Let’s talk about the pacing and the plot in general: the first season adopts an anthology-style, episodic narrative interspersed with an original anime-exclusive arc. While I personally found it a bit difficult to piece everything together at times, the show at least succeeded in conveying the city's dynamics, introducing the various players, and establishing their roles in the story. The second season delves deeper into the characters—particularly the supporting cast members who were frequently mentioned during the first season. As for the characters themselves, they certainly possess distinct personalities; Leonardo remains the "weak link" who must survive by relying on his wits and his vision rather than brute force. Yet, despite everything, you find yourself empathizing with him and the hardships he has endured—and continues to face—especially regarding his sister.

Klaus von Reinherz is the ideal leader; he is truly a character who grows on you, and you understand perfectly why he holds that role. In this way, each character takes shape, creating a dynamic and compelling narrative. Beyond its world-building, I believe the anime’s greatest strength lies in its messages: resilience in the face of the unpredictable. If we reflect on it, life in Hellsalem's Lot mirrors the uncertainty of the real world; no matter how absurd or dangerous the environment, the human response is to adapt, survive, and move forward. There is also beauty to be found in diversity and chaos; the coexistence of humans and extradimensional beings celebrates the ability to find a home amidst the disorder.
