Hello everyone! Today I'm going to share a drawing that I was looking forward to make as the theme seemed familiar.

It is Inktober Day 4 and the prompt for today is 'Cactus'.

My Backstory

I'm just playing around the formatting and want to make it seem a little dramatic. Cactus reminds me of my trip to Cameron Highlands because I went to a place called Cactus Point there. It was a massive nursery with a ton of flowers and plants including cactuses. At least half of them were cactuses of different species, ranging from a cute little baby cactus the size of our palm to giant cactus taller than us. We're talking 6 feet tall.

So during the trip, we bought a few cactus plants home. One of them was a pincushion cactus. It was a very unique type of cactus with bright little pinkish magenta flowers blooming on them. Some of them look like they have a little flower wrath on top when many bloomed. This species of cactus looks so pretty with the vibrant flowers on them.

My mother placed all the cactus plants at our little garden at the window area. It's like a balcony with grills. We do have medicinal plants there so we just placed the new little cactuses on the empty space. One evening, my father wanted to do a photography session. So there he was taking close up pictures of the cactuses and suddenly I heard a loud thud sound. I went to check it and noticed that the pincushion cactus was gone. Turns out, my father accidentally knocked it down and it fell and probably broke. I was upset because it was the cutest among them with pink flowers on it. My mother said that he did a good job, as in sarcasm and moved on. However, I was upset for weeks and have not moved on so I ranted here in the guise of today's Inktober prompt.

The Drawing Process

Now let's get to the actual topic which is the cactus drawing. I started the sketch with the basic outline of the plant. I drew three of them. I also drew a little pot for them. Trust me, I did see multiple cactuses in a single pot being sold like a set. However, we need to move and replant them later on into separate pots as they grow.

Then, I added my favourite parts which are the cute little flowers. Some have bloomed, some blooming, while some are still little buds.

After that, I drew their little thorns. They were more like hair actually. This took quite long to draw the little lines all over all three of the cactuses. I also added some details on the pot and the soil. I just wanted them to have some body and shadows.

Ta-da!! This is the final outcome and I added a pop of colour by highlighting the little flowers in neon pink. In real they were in magenta shade. They were so beautiful and it seemed special to see even a thorny cactus growing bright, beautiful flowers.

These are just some extra pictures for the thumbnail. I was trying to make a decision. Please forgive me for my lengthy rant about the lost cactus. But I feel a little better now so that's a win.

Ahh I didn't know there's a Bitmoji with the pincushion cactus! Anyways, thank you for dropping by and for listening to my rant. Have a wonderful, rant-free day ahead.
