Hello everyone! Yesterday was Deepavali and I just wanted to share some pictures I took since the morning. But before that, I wish everyone celebrating a Happy Deepavali. We didn't have much going on today except for some yummy food. Every year, we just celebrate the first day at home with some prayers and hearty food.
However this year, we had a guest as we invited my uncle to come over. Usually he doesn't come as he used to live elsewhere far away. But this year he moved to a place closer and since he is the only one nearby, we asked him to join us and he did. My aunty who is his wife couldn't join as she had work since she's non-Indian and had to cover the shifts. I guess I'll be seeing her in two months during CNY.
Here are all the snacks bought from a famous shop. It is called Kacang Putih shop located in Ipoh. We got many types in large amounts because we probably won't go there for a year or at least half a year again. Most of these will be shared to our relatives. My packed some for my uncle too. The nuts on the other hand are from the nut shop nearby. It deserves a post of its own since they have many different types of good quality ones.
This is me after getting ready fo the festival. I could only keep the outfit on until 12.00pm afternoon. Then I changed back out to casuals as the cooking preparation began and it gets too heaty in the kitchen.
We already have other side dishes prepared but my mother and I cooked chicken biryani today mainly because my uncle came over. He has never tried it and we wanted to pack some for my aunty too. This is just a brief process of the cooking that I took pictures of. By the way, that looks like a ton of onions but in time, they shrunk into nothing.
This is a dum biryani made with onion, ginger and garlic paste, bay leaves, star anise, cinnamon, cloves, marinated chicken with all the spices and of course the basmati rice. It was a lengthy process and the cooking took one and a half an hour. That's excluding the prep time and marination. But it was all worth it at the end.
Later, I had some grapes sparkling drink. My brother poured this and he accidentally spilled some. I forgot to take a picture of the bottle. I actually love such glass bottles and used to collect them as decors to put fairy lights in them.
So that's how my day was. I typed this at the wee hours. I did sleep but kept jolting up awake due to some people still playing fireworks even at 4am. I'm all in for celebrating but I feel after a certain timing it should be stopped so it doesn't cause disturbance to others. Anyway thank you for dropping by and have a great day ahead!
