Hello everyone! Today I'm going to share my drawing of Inktober Day 2. The prompt for today is 'Relic'. So I had several ideas like an old key, or an ancient coin, or an old weapon or even a vintage crown. However I came across some interesting vases of ancient civilizations as I was looking for inspiration. I decided to give it a try.

I chose to draw a ancient Sumerian vase because I have been reading a Sumerian based story in a game. It had many interesting facets and elements like magic, legends an even Gods. The story explored some mystical themes like death and afterlife. I am yet to finish it as I was in a chapter where every character had to go through certain trials and tribulations by facing their traumas. I need some time to get it over with due to the heaviness. Ever since I have started reading this story, I also researched a little about the ancient Sumerian culture and the stories of their Gods and mythology.

The Process

As I was looking for some inspiration, I found some photographs of this antique vase. I really liked the design because they looked similar to the characters of the story game that I play. So, first of all, I started my drawing with the basic outline. I am still getting used to drawing with pen and it is not easy for me to get a smooth drawing. It got me wondering how one of my friends here who draws beautiful faces in pen always gets them smooth without rough and uneven edges like mine.

I drew one of the characters in the center. There were others but I liked this the most. It seemed like the traditional wear I saw in the story before. I'm glad I got the proportions right and then added some drawings on the side. I mostly used dots and some checked designs.

I drew the rest of the design on top and bottom. I added some light lines here and there to give it the relic appearance. I just wish I did a little better with the vase holder. Still, I really liked how the designs came together and enjoyed drawing them. I left it as it is without any colours as this drawing theme suits the black and white style.

This is the final outcome. I definitely enjoyed making the design and even colouring them in with my black inked pen. Hopefully I'll be able to keep my streak for this challenge.

Thank you for dropping by and I hope that you have a wonderful day ahead!
