NO PHONES IN SCHOOL - WOULD LEARNING BE BETTER OR HARDER? ____WEEK 63

I will be answering the prompt for Week 63 - Imagine school without a phone.

Honestly, when I saw this topic, I just smiled. Because I actually experienced a small part of school without phone.

In my Secondary school days in Anambra, we did not have phones. Not even small torchlight phone. School was very different then.

If phones never existed, I think school would be more real, but also more difficult.

First, let me talk about the good side. Without phones, students will attend lectures more. No excuse of "I will watch it online later" or "send me the recording on WhatsApp group." You must comme to class, sit down, write yoour notes with your hand..... You will knoow your classmmates by face, not by DP...(lol) You will gist during break, laugh loud, borrow biro, share groundnut. That physical bond will be strong. Like before, during my secondary school, if you miss note, you must go to that brilliant girl's house to copy. That is how friendships started.

Also, there would be less distraction. No scrolling TikTok inside lecture hall, no pressing phone under desk while lecturer is teaching. Students would focus more.

But on the other side, life would be very hard. Without phones, how will you quickly ask Google a question? How will you snap the board when lecturer writes fast and says "copy quickly I am cleaning"? How will you get past questions? Now, we have class WhatsApp group where if you miss class, someone will drop update. Without phone, you are on your own.

And think about assignments and research. Before, you must go to library, carry big books. Now with phone, you can research in your hostel, even at 2am.

For me, I think if phones never existed, students would learn better in terms of discipline and friendship, but would struggle more with information. Life would be slower, more stressful, but maybe more meaningful.

If I weere to chooose, I would still want phoones, but I wish we can use themm more wiselly in school, not just for disstraction.
