For Hive Students Connect Week 63 Prompt: Imagine School Without A Phone.
What would school really look like if phones never existed?
First, classrooms would be different. Right now, many students don't write notes in class because they know they can take pictures of the board or get PDFs later. Without phones, every student would have to come to class with notebook and pen and write everything by hand. Attendance would be more important because if you miss a class, there is no WhatsApp group to send you updates. You must find a friend physically to collect notes. This would make students more serious and disciplined.
Secondly, learning would be slower but deeper. Without phones, there is no Google to quickly search answers. No YouTube videos to explain topics. Studeents would depend fully on textbooks, library, and lecturers..... Research would take longer because you have to go to the library, open big books, and read page by page........ It would be stressful, but the knowledge would stay longer because you worked hard for it.
Thirdly, social life in school would be more real. Today, even when students are sitting together in class, everybody is pressing their own phone, scrolling TikTok or chatting. Without phones, students would talk to each other face to face....... During break, they would play, gist, laugh loudly, borroow things. Friendships would be stronger because they are built physically, not online. There would be less distraction during lectures and more eye contact between lecturers and students.
However, there would also be challenges. Communication would be hard. If there is emergency or change in lecture venue, how will students know quickly? Without phones, information moves slowly. Assignments would be harder to submit. Group work would be difficult to organize. And past questions and study materials that now circulate easily through phones would be scarce.
In conclusion, school without phones would be more disciplined, more social, and more focused, but also more stressful and slower in terms of access to information......... It would bring back the old school system where students rely on hard work, library, and real human connecction instead of screens.
If phones never existed, school would be harder, but maybe more meaningful.
