Belief.

Hmm. When I saw this prompt my chest got tight.

I used to believe something so stupid. I believed that if I was quiet enough, life would leave me alone...As someone who don't like wahala(problem)

Like, if I don't talk back in class, teachers won't pick on me.......
If I don't say how I feel to my friends, they won't get tired of me......
If I just nod and smile at home, there won't be wahala....

So I became a professional quiet person.

For years o.

And lemme tell you something... it didn't work.

People still talked about me. People still misunderstood me. The only difference was, I started misunderstanding myself too. I forgot what I even thought about thingss. Because I never said it out looud.

The day it broke me was when I lost something I really wanted... Not because I wasn't good enough for it ooooo. But because I was too scared to open my mouth...like an adage says"A closed mouth is a closed destiny"
I watched someone else take it. Someone who was just louder than me...yeah , someone who was more open..

I went home that night and cried ee. Not loud crying. Just sitting on my bed crying quietly.. The irony.

And I asked myself: "What's the point of everyone liking a version of you that isn't even real??? what's even the gain?"

Now? My belief is different.
I believe peace that comes from silence is fake peace.
I believe my voice is shaky but it's still mine.
I believe the right people won't leave when you speak truth.

Is it easy? Nope.
Is it worth it? Yes.

What's a belief you had before that you don't have again?
