DO IT YOURSELF - What I Do Myself At Home Instead of Paying Professionals - Week 238 Episode 03
What are the things I can do by myself in my home? Many things. In Nigeria now, if you call professional for everything, your money will finish. So I learned to do many things myself.
First thing is hair making.
I don't normally go to salon for every hairstyles. Salon price is now 5k, 7k for braids. As a student I cannot afford it every two weeks. So I learned how to make my own hair from YouTube. I do all back, packing gel, even small twist and All back(weaving ).It is not perfect like salon, but it saves me money. And I enjoy it because I can do it while watching film at home, no need to sit in salon for 6 hours with neck pain. I will continue this way even after school because why pay someone for what my hand can do?
Second is cooking and baking.
Some people outsource cooking, they buy food outside every day. I don't. I cook myself. I learned how to bake cake, meat pie, and small chops. Before, if there is birthday in my family, we will pay baker 35k for cake. Now I bake it myself with 12k ingredients. It tastes good and my younger ones love it. I also make my own hair oil with shea butter and coconut oil instead of buying expensive one. I mix it myself. It is fun and I know what is inside.
Third is electrical and plumbing small.
My father taught me. If bulb spoils, I don't call electrician. I off the light from fuse box and change it myself. If tap is leaking, I buy 200 naira rubber washer in market and fix it. If my extension wire spoils, I open it and join wire. Of course big work like wiring house I will call professional because I don't want to burn house, but small small repair I do myself. This saves at least 3k each time.
Fourth is design and writing.
I design my own flyers, birthday cards, and even business posters using Canva on my phone. People pay 2k for simple flyer, I do my own free. I also write my school assignments myself, I don't pay people to write for me.
Do I enjoy doing these things? Yes, very much. At first it was because there was no money. But now I enjoy it because it gives me confidence......... When you fix your own tap or make your own hair and someone compliments you, you feel proud. You feeel like "I did this!"
Will I continue this way? Yes. 100%. In this economy, DIY is not just hobby, it is survival skill. The money I save from DIY, I use it to stake WAIV and buy data for Hive.
My advice to everyone reading: Learn one thing this month that you always pay for. Learn to do it yourself. YouTube is free university. You will save money and you will learn skill that nobody can take from you.
