I have always liked being able to take care of some things on my own at home. Not everything needs to involve calling a professional or waiting for someone to come and then paying for a service that I might be able to do myself, course there are things that require an expert and I am not going to pretend I know how to do everything, there are some simple things I can handle without any problem.
For example I can fix a blocked sink..... Do you know how annoying it can be when water refuses to go down the sink? Especially when you are in a hurry to finish washing plates or doing things in the kitchen? That can be frustrating, sometimes instead of calling a plumber right away I check what is causing the blockage and deal with minor clogs by myself, as long as it is something simple and safe I don't mind doing it.
Another thing I can do is handle issues with electrical sockets, like noticing when a socket's loose or not working properly, electricity is not something I take lightly, I just won't open sockets or try to fix electrical problems without the right knowledge, anything that involves wiring or a risk of shock is a job for a qualified electrician, I like saving money, I also like being alive to enjoy the money I save.
I can also handle pest problems around the house. Sometimes you just want to get rid of those insects that have decided your house is their permanent home, you see ants moving around like they pay rent, mosquitoes disturbing your sleep and other little creatures acting like they own the place, I can handle pest problems myself using the right products and following the instructions.. If the infestation is serious I would rather call professionals who know how to deal with it properly.
Honestly I enjoy being able to do these things on my own and Mostly because of the satisfaction that comes from solving a problem without depending on someone for every little thing, there is a feeling you get when something is not working right, you figure out what is wrong, you manage to fix it, It feels good especially when you realize you saved some money in the process.
To be honest here, with things being so expensive these days being able to handle some problems on your own can be helpful, Imagine calling someone every time your sink gets blocked or a small issue comes up around the house. Before you know it the money you could have used for something has gone into service charges.
Will I keep doing these things on my own? Absolutely, yes as lng as they are within my ability and safe for me to handle I don't see any reason to pay someone to do something simple that I can do comfortably myself.
However I also understand that knowing your limits is important, there is a difference, between being handy and putting yourself in danger because you want to prove a point, for plumbing problems, electrical repairs or serious pest infestations I will gladly leave the job to professionals.
At the end of the day I believe that learning to handle things around the house is a useful skill, really.... you save money become more independent and learn something along the way, and honestly anything that helps me not spend unnecessarily while keeping my home in good condition is something I am willing to continue doing.
