Indeed, there's a different kind of satisfaction that comes from being able to do something for yourself. And I'm glad for those big little things I'm able to do for myself too, even though it may look normal or small to others, I'm still happy about it, because when I think about the amount I could have spent to sort it, it makes me feel good that I was able to handle it myself.
One of it is cooking, yeah, I love to cook and I do that a lot. There are a couple of meals I've seen on the internet and I've tried it out myself. Instead of going all out to order it, and buy food, I'd rather get the ingredients and make the for for myself. It doesn't always come out perfect, but then you will enjoy it. I can say cooking is my hobby. And beyond that, cooking for myself and handling my kitchen duties as helped me save a lot of money. When I go to the market to get foodstuffs and ingredients, I get it in large quantities such that it might take me a month or more before I get anything again, except for little things. So, buying in bulk and cooking for myself has been a great way to save.
Also, there are times I do some simple creative and customization work for myself. I'm into frame and customized item, and there are times I would need to do some creative work like flyers, banners, frames, magic mugs, throw pillows, business card and the likes for customers, instead of spending heavily to do it, I most times do the designs myself and then only go out to do the printing part, even though I'm almost on the path of learning it deeply now, because there's a limit to the designs I can do, and the tools I can make use of.
And of course there are things I don't do for myself, yeah, I would rather take it to where I know they can do it, or call someone who's very good at it to come help handle it. Most of which is related to the graphics work I just mentioned, there are some works I take from customers and take it to professionals to handle it. The fact that I can do some things doesn't mean I should or must do everything, some works actually need that professional touch, and I won't because I want to save or gain some more money for myself then go ahead to do it.
It's good to know how to be able to do certain things, even if it's little. It just means that you won't always be helpless, and you will always have at least something you can do for yourself. So, if there's a way to learn and do something for yourself, then why not. Some things aren't as hard as it seems, if you can learn, learn. There's definitely something satisfying about looking at a thing/finished work and knowing that you did it yourself.
