This is about our experiences with scammers which I believe all of us have at least one of such experience. I am no different. I’ve had my fair share of scams right from my personal life to my crypto life.
So a couple of years ago, I got a call from my Junior I met in high school school. We had both completed by the time he called me. I was seated outside that day working on something on my pc he called.
I answered and to be frank was shocked he was calling me. We exchanged pleasantries and he told me he was stranded in a town far from home. He was headed to a village and his motorbike developed a fault. He claimed he needed some money to fix it but did not have money on him.
He then decided to call me after all attempts to reach his family and friends didn’t work out. Before I could say a word this guy sent me a picture on WhatsApp but before that he said if I did not believe him he had proof.
It was a picture of him in a mechanic shop with “the mechanic” and his “motor” behind his back. He pleaded for 30 Ghanaian cedis which currently at the time of writing is 5.68 hive.
The funny thing is that he didn’t ask to be given the money he asked for me to lend the money so that when he returned from his trip he’d send my money back to me. I did not think for long because it was the first time he asked me for money. I just decided to send the money to him with little hesitation.
Just minutes after that my brother came out of the room and told me this same guy texted him with the same story looking for money. The twist was that because I had already given money, he texted my brother because he was too shy to ask me again. He claimed to my brother the 30 cedis was not enough but he couldn’t ask for more.
My brother sent him the extra 30 cedis. He showed me the message but we didn’t make a big deal out of it. Few minutes later I saw an update on this guy’s status with a screenshot captioned “blocked so many fake friends”. I just guessed it was due to asking them for money and they couldn’t help.
I don’t know when it hit us but we both realized we might have been scammed. Maybe it was because we had not seen his status update for quite some time. I decided that I would text him to see.
I sent him a WhatsApp text and can you imagine the reply I got for my hi bro? “Who is this?” was the response I got. I said it was me Yahuza and he came with stories that he had lost his phone blah blah blah.
My brother and I knew he had scammed us and so we told some of our friends that knew him about the situation so they wouldn’t fall victim. Days later one of our friends sent us a screenshot and it was a text from the guy with the same format. He was headed to the village and can’t pay for the faulted motorbike.
Our other friend knew about this scam already so he asked him to video chat him. He was giving all sort of excuses and so Jimah just told him to go pay my brother his money then come for what he wanted.😅
He of course couldn’t and was still looking a way to get the money. Jimah just hanged up after telling him he was a thief and he wanted to take advantage of him.
We haven’t concerned ourselves too much about the money because we are not going to pretend like everything’s is fine when we meet him. I won’t pretend and smile because he has made a fool of me which is something I do not particularly like. I might not bother myself about the money but there’s blood between us and he has to be made aware.
So here is my story of how my Junior and friend from my high school managed to throw dust into my eyes and scam me. I have learnt my lessons from that experience.
Thank you
