Couple of days back a person appeared at my door step, asking if I am having any problems with my wifi connection, as he had received a complaint for an unstable connection, I asked him who he was, he told me he was from Jio company and also showed me the ID card. I have the Jio connection, I was busy in the kitchen so was not sure if the internet was working or not. I checked my phone and there was connection, then I checked with my Son if he had raised any complaint, because he is the one who needs fast speed connection for his work. He told me no. I said that guy that there seems to be some confusion, our connection is good and we have not raised any complaint. To which he said, oh may be your neighbor raised a complaint, I will check with them. It all felt very normal at that time.
After he left within 5 minutes, my internet connection got disconnected. During this time, the Jio person was still in the building, at ground floor neighbor's residence. He asked them the same question and at that time the internet had stopped working for all of us. Till then, it was perfectly working. By the time we realized that something was not right, he had already taken the money from the neighbor fixed it and left.
After a while in our society group, couple of people messaged asking if this Jio guy moving around in the society is genuine, because the moment he would check with the resident if their internet was working after that within 5 minutes it would stop working for the whole building whoever had Jio connections. The Jio person seemed to be very carefree; he did not realize that in the society his tricks were already noticed. We have some 25 buildings in our society with 6 flats in each one. He was moving around to each building not realizing that he was already caught.
One resident finally nabbed the person and then everyone came together to question him, and we found out that he was a fraud. Some members of the society took him to the police station and there they recovered all the money from him, and then the police took him in custody.
It's so easy to trick people these days, so many different types of scams keep happening on a daily basis. It is difficult to identify also if it's a scam or no. Every time we cannot have that presence of mind of checking for a scam. Sometimes it feels very genuine, honestly, I myself did not realize if that was a possible scam. The only thing I did was I did not encourage the person and did not allow him to get in to my home.
