Here is my entry for the #monomad contest by @brumest and @monochromes.

Taking a closer look

We’re focusing more and more on things that aren’t even real. We waste time—or think we’re spending it in an enjoyable way—when we spend hours scrolling through content that someone else has produced… Instead of seeking out our own experiences, discovering the wonders of what’s around us.

We look at idyllic destinations and dream without ever leaving where we are. This ability is intrinsic to human beings: to dream, to want more, and to be happy. But what if happiness doesn’t spring from these external actions?

Do we have the time needed to find some points of reference, or even to waste time searching—and often finding nothing—and to realize that happiness isn’t always something achieved in a single moment, but rather the simple fact that sometimes we must seek it within ourselves?

Leaving home, for me, is almost always an opportunity to look beyond my own four walls. It compels me to explore paths, gardens, sounds, and people who are in every way similar to us.

Each person’s gaze carries within it the desire and the will to discover more about themselves and others. Unfortunately, in this world, we let fear get the better of us most of the time, and we don’t take that first step. We don’t reach out or offer a smile to those beside us.

And so, we let our hearts grow cold…
