It’s Not Toxic, But It’s Draining Me

I’m a 30-year-old salaried woman living in the capital of a tropical country. Not just that — I’m tired. Not of living, but working in this office. Not because of the workload, but the social environment. It’s not to the extent to be called toxic, but it’s stressful enough because it gets further from my ideal expectation—people gossiping about one another. One group dislikes another, and the feeling is mutual. Being in the middle of it, without taking sides, leaves everything bottled up inside me.

Do you think getting a new job, a new environment, and new colleagues will change things?

If I leave, there are only three possibilities: a better environment, the same situation, or something even worse. Nothing can guarantee that moving will get me into a better place. Additionally, in this economy, it’s very difficult to find a job to begin with. Moreover, I’m here ranting about how ‘bad’ my workplace is, even though I’m getting paid monthly. Am I too selfish and ungrateful for wanting something better?

I wanna work as well as I can to show my gratitude in any workplace I’m in. Yet, it’s getting harder by the time. If you were in my shoes, would you stay and adapt, or take the risk and leave?
