Being a dining prefect entailed a lot, good thing we were two females and so no one needed to overwork(maybe). There were days with special dishes in my highschool and Sunday evening was one of those days. We were served fried rice and chicken and of course, no one would want to miss that for anything.

We assigned pots of rice to different tables and it was time to share the chicken –my favourite part🌝. Dining prefects boys and girls came together making us four. We had five pots of chicken to share to the masses of loud fellows in the dining hall. we got creative, "let's share three pots first and see how it goes." The dining prefect boy suggested. We all thought it was a great idea and so we went on with the plan. This suggestion was to prevent students from dubiously getting extra chicken.

We shared and we were just on track. It seemed like all the students had gotten their piece of chicken and we still had two pots remaining. You could see the visible euphoria on our faces. We decided to share the two full pots of chicken amongst ourselves. It's worthy to note that as a dining prefect, all your friends and loved ones are to share your extra food with you.

I happily took my part of the chicken and went to my table to share with my friends and the other prefects did the same. Three minutes into our merriment, we were called back to our duty post.

"Why would they call us back? We were done sharing food" were my thoughts.

By the duty post were seven students, five boys and two girls reporting that they didn't get chicken. My-o-my😅. I turned to my table and saw my friends happily munching on the pieces of chicken I gave them, then I turned back to look at the weary looking students who didn't get their required protein for the day. I had already shared all my extra chicken and I didn't want to reap anyone's joy away, that won't be right.

Where on earth were we supposed to get chicken to give to these guys? We went to the kitchen and the cooks in their regular manner were yelling. Sunday cooks are always very arrogant.

Long story short, after wandering around and looking for chicken to give to the remaining students (which was futile in the end) and also acting absolutely naive about the fact that we wrongly hoarded chicken, we promised to give the student extra meat the next day being Monday. I wasn't on duty that Monday and I don't know how it went, but what I do know is that we didn't have seven angry students on our trail after Monday.

And I wonder, what if there were more than seven students?. I don't even want to imagine how that would have gone😅. After that Sunday, we became more diligent with our duty and avoided unnecessary hoarding…I think.

Thank you so much for reading.

With love, wongi ✨
