Hello everyone 😇

It's a beautiful Friday and a perfect day to get creative. It is one thing to have materials and another thing to actually come up with something beautiful using these materials. For today, I made a little shelf using cartoons.

For this craft, I used really long cartons as I didn't want the frequent cutting and joining of cartons. Using long and wide cartons also ensure that your craft doesn't fall off easily.

  • Cartons
  • Cellotape
  • A circular object
  • Gum
  • A ruler and measuring tape

Procedure.

The first thing I did was gather all my materials together. Gathering materials together helps to increase productivity and also reduce the time spent on making a craft. On a normal day, I would spend over five hours making a craft but I made this craft in two hours; yes, I was timing myself😅

After gathering all my materials, I went ahead to start cutting the large cartons using a 3 by 32 inches measurement. I cut out four pieces using this measurement because the carton I used is a bit thick. If you decide to replicate this and you're using a lighter carton, I would advise you to cut up to five or six pieces as the case may be.

After cutting the pieces, I placed my carton round the circular object I was using and then went ahead to cellotape the carton to the object. This object helped to give the arch on the shelf.

I went ahead to join the remaining three pieces with glue and sellotape. Things may get a bit tricky here but you have to ensure that all the cartons are rightly placed and secured.

With that out of the way, I started making the base. I cut out four pieces of carton using the measurements from the space of the first part of my shelf. I went ahead to gum and tape the pieces together. At this point, I felt like a carpenter working with wood, hehe.

After making the base, I placed it in its position and secured it with gum and tape. With that, I was pretty much done with the shelf. I carefully removed the circular object at the top and went ahead to tape all the parts together to prevent any breakage.

After taping, I went ahead to spray paint it with black colour. I can say that when it comes to choosing colours for my crafts, I always go with black. It could because black is beautiful 😅.

After painting the craft black, I decided to add a bit of colour to it. This is to improve its aesthetics. To make the flowers, I used different sizes of papers for the different sizes of flowers; 6cm by 6cm, 8cm by 8cm and 10cm by 10cm.

First, I folded the paper into two equal halves then I went ahead to make a triangle from the halves.

With a pencil, I drew the pattern of flowers which I wanted and with scissors, I carved out the flowers.

I placed the flowers at the top corner on the shelf and with this, I was done with this piece. It's amazing the numerous things we can make using waste cartons

What do you think of this craft? What colour would you have preferred it in? Thank you for your time.
