The survival game Chernobylite finally has an approximate release date. In summer you will explore the dangerous zone around the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. A new trailer gets you in the mood for it.
The action game combines survival and horror elements with exciting battles. As an ex-physicist at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, you explore a large game world that has changed a lot after the disaster there.
In addition to treasure hunters, there are also mysterious creatures in the exclusion zone. That makes it difficult to survive. You look for equipment and raw materials, build your own shelter, try to avoid military patrols and the mutants and find clues to the whereabouts of your missing girlfriend.
The protagonist of Chernobylite, Igor, was working as a young physicist at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant when the worst possible accident occurs. A core meltdown in the reactor during a security drill leads to the explosion of Unit 4, and over the next few days huge amounts of highly radioactive isotopes are released into the earth's atmosphere.
The immediate vicinity and the nearby city of Pripyat are worst affected by the radioactive fallout. As a result, many people lose what is most dear to them, including Igor when he "loses" his girlfriend (we do not know exactly whether she will die or what will happen to her).
It is necessary to manufacture weapons and equipment in order to defend you against the numerous threats. It is possible that you will ally yourself with NPCs in the zone and thus build a group that has a better chance of surviving together.
The devs describe their game as follows:
Chernobylite is a science-fiction survival horror experience. The game is mixing free exploration of its disturbing world with non-linear storytelling and RPG elements.
Make your choices, but remember: they will not only have a direct impact on the Zone, sometimes you’ll feel the consequences many hours of playing later.
Play as a physicist, one of the Chernobyl Power Plant’s ex-employees, and investigate the mysterious disappearance of your beloved. Try to survive and reveal the Exclusion one’s twisted secrets. Remember, the military presence is not your only concern.
You can clearly see and hear that when developing Chernobylite, considerable resources must have flowed into the realistic design of the surroundings. You could almost call the forests and old buildings a beautiful area if the dilapidated machines and alarming warning signs weren't called to mind everywhere you are virtually.
Chernobylite looks so good that it could easily become a virtual alternative for all disaster tourists who want to see a radioactive exclusion zone up close. As I said, the atomic horror is by far not the only creepy thing about Chernobylite.
In addition, there are supernatural phenomena such as the strange gas mask guys . It moves in a disgusting jerky manner, has glowing green eyes and emerges like a ghost out of nowhere, only to disappear into the same again. I don't even know what exactly his goals are. It would even be conceivable that Igor just imagined him, because in Chernobylite a lot is conceivable in terms of scary effects.
Musically, too, the first-person shooter always gives goose bumps thanks to the coherent soundtrack.
To prepare Chernobylite for the July release, a mega-patch for the Early Access version was released on Steam.
The update brings some major changes and innovations. Including:
If you're already hyped - as I am - I clearly can recommend the Early Access Version on Steam.
But if you preffere a more complete experience, you don't need to wait too long, at least.
Rambo-style carnage? Stealthy elimination of your enemies? Or silently sneaking past all dangers? Your choices don’t limit only to the story, as in this world you decide what approach will be best.
Chernobylite is not about a solo journey. It’s an RPG game where your companions are the key for survival and going through the story.
You need to build a team, take care of your allies and provide them with food, medicine, weapons and intel. If you do it right, they’ll support you on your way to the finish line. If you fail in creating and maintaining the relationships, your odds won’t be worth a penny
