Underwater exploration, survival horror, whatever you want to call it, has been getting more and more popular. Is it the Subnautica 2 early access that has caused people to take note of this sub-genre? I think it is just synergy in game development personally. No matter what is encouraging all these underwater based games to launch, gamers are the real winners as there are so many to choose from. If you prefer not being able to hurt the creatures, grab Subnautica 2. If you prefer to explore underwater with a tinge of survival horror, then Dark Mass is for you.
Dark Mass puts you in the shoes of Alice, think of her as an underwater Lara Croft if you will, whose brother, Reed, is also along for part of the journey as her top side support.
An underwater seismic event uncovers an ancient shipwreck and Alice simply cannot let this go by her without investigating. She quickly gets more than she bargains for when she discovers a manor underneath, how did it get there? Fell into the water? Victim of flooding?
No matter, Alice cannot ignore the urge to find out, to learn more about both the shipwreck and that manor and now you are investigating.
Just remember, underwater, you are not running ANYWHERE. You are not moving quickly at all. You are not in your domain; you are in someone else’s.
SelectaPlay are publishing Dark Mass physical editions for the PlayStation 5 console. There will be two variations available – Standard and Collector’s Edition.
Standard Edition is basically what you would expect from a physical release. The game on disc, a manual, the case, artwork outside the case and done.
Collector’s Edition is packed with extras including Alice’s turtle bracelet, the game, a manual, steelbook, and more.
Let me know in the comments what is your favorite underwater game. I am partial to Aquanauts Holiday on the PSOne console. It was such a relaxing game that reminded me so much of living in Northern California.
