Not all readers have the blessing of being part of a book club. For many, this is a longing they hope to fulfill someday.
In the virtual community "Leo, luego existo" (I'll tell you more about it another day), we have the alternative of in-person clubs in different locations where more than one member converges geographically. So, every month we meet, yes, to do what we readers do best: tear apart-comment-study-debate a book.
No todos los lectores cuentan con la bendición de formar parte de un club de lectura. Para muchos este es un anhelo que esperan cumplir algún día.
En la comunidad virtual “Leo, luego existo” (otro día les hablaré más a precisión de ella) contamos con la alternativa de los clubes presenciales en distintas localidades en que converjan geográficamente más de un miembro. Así que, mensualmente nos reunimos, sí, para hacer lo que mejor sabemos hacer los lectores: destrozar-comentar-estudiar-debatir un libro.
You can't imagine the things that come up when several people read the same book! Do they really? Age differences, cultural background, and life experiences shape someone's perspective when approaching a literary work. The more complex the work, the more these nuances will stand out.
We decided we wanted to read Lolita—morbid curiosity? Intellectual pretensions? Were we bored? Perhaps, but the guys from the Leo Luego Existo club in Guantánamo ended up discovering a whole well of divergences.
In the end, we debated gender roles, social inequality, whether Lolita was guilty or not, the double standards in today's culture, and a thousand other things—and, of course, about the novel too, because in the end, these are the moments that Literature and those who love it generate.
¡No te imaginas las cosas que afloran cuando varias personas leen un mismo libro! ¿Realmente lo hacen? La diferencia de edad, el trasfondo cultural y las experiencias de vida moldean la perspectiva de alguien a la hora de abordar una obra literaria. Cuanta más compleja la obra, más se notarán estos matices
Decidimos que queríamos leer Lolita ¿morbo? ¿pretensiones intelectuales? ¿estábamos aburridos?Quizás, pero los chicos del club de Leo Luego Existo de Guantánamo terminamos descubriendo todo un pozo de divergencias.
Al final debatimos sobre roles de género, desigualdad social, si Lolita era o no culpable, la doble moral en la cultura actual y mil cosas más y bueno, claro está, también de la novela, porque al fin de cuentas estas son los momentos que genera la Literatura y los que la aman.
