Countless times, especially when I am alone or have not eaten around 1 p.m., my stomach has this noise it always makes. I am sure some of you have also experienced that type of noise, the type you hope nobody hears?
That sounds from our stomach has a name, which is 'borborygmi'.
Whenever that sounds is being made, it is either our stomach and intestine are constantly moving liquid, food, and maybe gas through our digestive system. When that sound is made and the movement is done, it helps to break down the food we have eaten and push it along.
And this movement and sound also happens when we have not eaten for a long while, and that is because our digestive system is still working and not switching off. And that is why it sometimes makes those movements that can sometimes make out stomach sounds, like it is rumbling.
And the most interesting aspect of this is that even when we are not hungry, our stomach can still rumble; even when we are emotional or cold, it can give that rumbling sound. Gas and fluid moving through our intestines can make noise too.
Is that normal? Of course it is. So when next your stomach gives that sound when you are in the midst of people, just remember that your body is active and your digestive system is at work.
Have you ever been embarrassed before when your stomach made that rumbling sound when it was not supposed to?
