I was discussing with a friend who happened to have traveled out of the country, going on three years now. I first asked about her endeavours and what she has been up to. We discussed at length, and we talked about the two countries and how one is full of opportunities, as well as the other side of it too. She is in the US, as she went for her studies on a scholarship for her master’s degree. I have my master’s degree already in our country here, and we talked about how there are opportunities, particularly scholarships, to study abroad in STEM courses, and only a few are available for people like us in the humanities. Somebody like myself who studied language. This is not to say that there are no opportunities in language, though, but they are just limited, and the competition is intense even if you are to get one eventually.
We talked about the situation of things and how prices keep skyrocketing, and the cost of living is way above our expectations. It is just what it is. In a country where food and other essential commodities and amenities are scarce, then there will possibly be a problem that is going to be difficult for people to bear. If other things are expensive, food shouldn’t be, as that is what keeps the spirit alive at all times. Food should be subsidized by the government, and there should be empowerment for the farmers, the real farmers, and not just some entities posing as such.
The real problem we have is that we really care less about humanity in this part of the world and focus on just enriching our pockets and ourselves individually just to oppress the less fortunate among us. It is pathetic to hear a government official saying he can’t allow his children to go to a government school because he has paid the bills and made the sacrifices for them. Does that mean people putting their children in government schools are cursed or have offended God? As much as it is true that we all fight at some point in our lives to give the best to our children, it sounds a bit off for someone in government to say he can never allow his children to go to a government school. If the government schools were of a good standard, would that have been his response on live television? I guess the answer would be “no.” Why is it difficult for these people to do the right thing? Why are the forces fighting against the progress of the third-world country so enormous that it seems we can never get it right?
And the funny thing is that the best brains keep leaving the system and traveling for better lives and better conditions for themselves. Are they to be blamed? Every one of us wants a system that is working and devoid of the pressure to survive, where a child of nobody can certainly make a name for himself without doing something shady. Come to think of it, is the minimum wage even enough to board a flight within the country, and yet we believe everything is normal? How can we survive this difficulty and lifestyle?
Until we start living for humanity and for the goal of one nation, and not to oppress one another, it is going to be difficult for a difference to be obvious in our society.
