Life is full of ups and downs. I have a lot of uncertainty ahead of me as I relocate to a small town...I googled it, population is around 2,400. To cope with feeling stressed out I made fan art, which I considered to be throwing away time, just for fun. No expectations. It was marvelous to forget about everything and just create . But then it got curied. Score!
And if that wasn't enough one of the actors shared the image I did of him on his social media. The exposure tripled my Instagram following in 24 hours. It was entirely overwhelming. I even had a couple messages from people asking me to do images of them in the same style. So it potentially could get me some commission work.
I created the self-portrait above because with all this I felt a little more whimsical than I had anticipated my life to be. I wanted a personal reminder of the magic that can happen even in dark times, hence the dark background. I always wear that key necklace, because keys are symbolic of opening doors and new opportunities. So keeping it on for the image, felt right. Butterflies are of course symbolic of transformation. The emerge from dark cocoons into beauty. I'm hoping to come out of darker times to something a bit more beautiful.
