Hi everyone! I was in my backyard picking up leaves and I sat down to rest. I looked at my neighbor's tree which was bare and I saw a birds nest. That is one thing I like about bare trees; it is easy to see the nests that were hiding behind all of the green leaves during the summer.
I was standing underneath the nest when I took this photo.
The sky turned gray and it felt like something was staring at me, so I looked higher up on the tree next to the nest and I was right. Something was staring at me.
I have never seen a bird this large before so I walked closer to get a better look.
OMG! I just saw my first hawk! How exciting this was for me until I did my research and found out more about this Cooper's Hawk. They eat birds and not the small ones. They eat the medium size birds and their favorites are my favorites; robins and mourning doves! I will spare you all of the gory details on the terrible ordeal these birds go through before they eventually die.
I know, it is just their nature but I was horrified and ran back outside to shoo the hawk away but it was already gone. If I am missing any mourning doves, I will know what happened to them.
I was happy to see my first hawk but I will be just as happy if it doesn't return.
Look at how long the tail is.

All photos are my own. I wish the hawk photos were better.
