There's a protest going on in Nigeria. A peaceful protest organized by the Nigerian youth to demand for the total disbandment of an arm of the police force called SARS(Special Anti-Robbery Squad.)
This unit has been extorting, harassing, Raping and killing the Nigerian youths for a very long time. They do this under the disguise that they are performing their jobs.
They target hardworking Nigerians and extort them of their hard earn money. And if you are unfortunate not to have money to give, they kill you.
They sexually assault women and call them names if they don't like the way you're dressed.
To them, owning an IPhone and laptop means you are a criminal.
They can stop you and start going through your phones trying to look for something to implicate you. When they can't find anything, they go to the extent of planting weeds in your car so they can have a reason to extort you.
Now the youths are finally saying no to their brutality. We are protesting for the disbandment of this unit and Calling for a total reform of the the police force.
Though it's been a peaceful protest from the youth, the police have killed 10 protesters since the protest began but even with this, the Nigerian Youths are not backing out.
This is a first of it's kind in my country. The youths are finally speaking against bad government and I am so proud of my generation.
So incase you have been seeing the #endsars #endpolicebrutality it's from the Nigerian youth and this the
reason for it.
This is me at the protest on Sunday. I couldn't go on other days because I had to go to work. But I have been online lending my voice to protest.
