I took the first bus from the park that morning. I was going home. Finally going home, to see my father.
He was sitting in the veranda, chewing pensively on his chewing stick. He never believed in toothpaste, he said it tasted weird and doesn't even clean his teeth well.
He trusted his herbal stick.
"This would clean the mouth and make it healthy. Not that sweet thing you all lick" He would say confidently.
It's been 5years but he looks pretty the same. Except for his body, he looks frail and brittle but his eyes are still as clear as the day.
Papa!
He looked up from his sitting, I could see the surprise on his face. He didn't know I was coming.
Kosi! Kosi!! He screamed.
He stood up and envelope me in his arms. He smells like cassava. He must have been working on the farm.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"
"I could have picked you at the park." He added
"I wanted to surprise you." I replied.
"Oh, my child."
"Welcome,You must be tired." He said as he led the way into the house.
His excitement and look could deceive one. He doesn't look sick. He wouldn't have told me about it either.
Fortunately the town doctor was a friend and he had told me about the Cancer.
Right then, I knew. It was time to go home.
