After my abysmal attempt to start a cool and trendy tag yesterday (#handpouredmonday), its time to give way to the master of the silver blogging tags - silverd510@silverd510. Unlike me, who has the catchy tag naming ability of a pencil, silverd has some rather good tags ill be hoping on over the next couple of weeks, to help showcase some of my own silver stack.

OK, I bet all you new silver "stackers" are now wondering what this amazing, fantastic, catchy tag could possibly be.... Everyone, I give you: #fiestatuesday. A celebration of all things Mexican and silver.

1oz Silver Libertad

Country or origin: Mexico
Mass: 31.1 g (1.0 troy oz)
Diameter: 40 mm (1.58 in)
Thickness: 3.0 mm (0.12 in)
Edge: Reeded
Composition: 99.9% Ag
Years of minting: 1982-present

On the obverse side of the coin is the statue of the winged angel. She is featured front and center on the coin, with the twin volcanoes of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.

The Mexican Silver Libertad Coin has largely been overlooked by numismatics since its introduction in 1982. Though it is on par with coins like the American Silver Eagle and Austrian Silver Philharmonic, the coin is struck in much lower mintage levels each year. Recently, demand for the Libertad has risen, making it a hard-to-find coin as numismatics look to acquire the coin amid continued low mintage levels.

The 2015 Libertad Coin Highlights:

  • Only 903,000 of these coins exist!
  • Contains 1 oz of 99.9% pure silver.
  • Minted at the Mexican Mint in Mexico.
  • Features the popular Angel of Independence design on the obverse.

On the reverse of all 1 oz and larger Silver Libertads, you’ll notice the modern coat of arms in the center. Surrounding it are 10 different historical versions of the same seal used throughout Mexican history. The fractional-weight Silver Libertads have room only for the modern seal.

So while I still have your interest, and before you zone out, let me show you one of the first coins I actually bought when starting my own silver adventure....

Without going into too much detail, I started "stacking" in late 2015. Funny enough that was the time my not so little son (1/2pint) was born. I had thought long and hard about how he was going to grow and what kind of world would be around for him when he was finally old enough to live his life. I had already jumped down the rabbit hole of distrusting governments and trying to get my head around the distopian future I now believed was just over the horizon, and trying to get to grips with what I could possibly provide for him that would stand the test of time! Enter, stage left, SILVER.....

I started small, and I diversified greatly. I bought up all the 2015 silver coins I could find - Chinese Pandas, Austrian Philharmonics, UK Britannias, Canadian Maples etc....

So this little 2015 mexican silver coin holds a lot of potential, and I look forward to when 1/2pint is old enough to understand and appreciate the gift I plan on giving to him.
