Alex Kurtzman was a producer of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. So we do not have to worry about the special effects.
I do not remember The Mummy (1999) starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, so I will not compare them. And the original will not gravitate to me. Here is my review as an unbiased viewer.
Tom Cruise is still young. Maybe it's because of Scientology or a magic drink but he was born for adventure movies. His character is Sergeant Nick Morton who, while serving in Iraq, hunts for antiquities and sells them on the black market.
He is not an honest man and not a hero at all. He can even be called a coward. First of all, he thinks how to save his own skin.
After the air strike, he and his friend Chris Vail discover the tomb. An archeologist Jenny Halsey arrives immediately. We quickly find out that Nick Morton and Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) have already slept together. And it took 15 seconds. Make archaeological excavations unsafe and they take the mummy to England. On the way, the plane is broken.

I was very pleased with the humor in the film. There were a lot of jokes and they were all right. Humor discharged a tense atmosphere and dynamic scenes.
The movie was spectacular and large-scale. Special effects are performed at the highest level. The scenes of the catastrophes are completely realistic. The scene inside the crashed plane was shot live. The plane was gaining altitude, and then the engines were switched off for 20 seconds and the aircraft began to fall.
I was also pleased with the development of the character Nick Morton. From an unpleasant person, he turns into a great guy who saves the world.
Sofia Boutella is new to the film industry. She used to be a dancer.
But it is clear that she feels good in acting. Sofia Boutella is so strikingly charismatic, attractive and mysterious starring as Princess Ahmanet. I could not take my eyes off her. Well, among other things, she coped well with her role. Sometimes I even feel really sorry for her character because we were shown even more evil person - Dr. Henry Jekyll (Russell Crowe). All the most beautiful scenes were associated with her. I waited for her to start dancing in the desert. Because I remember her dancing in a cage accompany by Madonna's song "Isaac". She's a brilliant dancer.
Now we will discuss the negative aspects of the film. I was expecting an adventure movie, but The Mummy was another movie to make money. The movie was positioned as horrors, but there wasn't any frightening moment. I did not have enough drama, the escalating situation, the prehistory of the main characters Nick Morton and Jenny Halsey. I don't understand what is the company of Russell Crowe. Such a feeling that nothing more interesting could come up with. It is unlikely that this film will be remembered for long. The creators do not try to focus on this story and familiarize us with it in detail but want to finish it off quickly, in order to proceed with the next film, because The Mummy is the beginning of a new universe and Tom Cruise is 55 years old. They need to hurry up!
