Before you dive in to the deep end, you need to sit down either alone with yourself, or with your spouse if you are married, and truly identify what is it that you want to get out of getting into investing? Is it a way to put some extra cash to work, build up equity slowly while making a few extra bucks on the side? Are you just looking to make a little side money? Are you seeking to build generational wealth for your children and grandchildren? Are you looking to live as a full time investor and make yourself extremely wealthy? Are you planning on keeping your job and augmenting your retirement for yourself? Do you want to be a landlord, or would you rather just deal with buying and selling? If you have more than one goal, will they conflict with each other? How much money and time do you have to spare?
Most people I knew that tried their hand at investing got messed up more so on the idea they didn’t really know what they wanted to get out of it when they hit the field, over the idea that they made bad investments or were taken advantage of.
