What's the best part of traveling all the way to a beach city.. you guessed it, 'Seafood!' and today I'm sharing you such sea food style and also such ways to eat a few kinds of seafood, you guessed it again!!, Thai style kind of seafood dishes. Spoiler alert, super duper tasteful as you can imagine, we love flavors!
The place we went to in Pattaya called, Pu-Pen meaning alive crab. I think they want to just mean that their seafood is fresh! Which I think it's true. Not just that, their food is yummilicious and my whole family is happy with the meal.
The location is also great. It's locate literally just across the street from the beach so the open-air restaurant can see the sea view from all the tables. Pretty neat right. This time went with almost the whole fam so we had a chance to try so many seafood dishes. Excited already? Let's dive!
This one not much to talk about. I would assume we all love deep fried food! This dish is crispy whole fish. Crispy outside but still soft fresh fish meat from inside. The fish already got marinated before hand with some salt but as I mentioned earlier, we love flavors!
So, instead of just eating it just like that, we have spicy green mango salad to top with in your own place. The reason to not do it right on the whole fish is that so we can reserve the crispiness to the last second we put it in our mouth! :)
Oyyy, this one I may have had mentioned in some of my post before as I have been sharing lots of good Thai food dishes here on Hive. 'Jungle soup' what the h-ck is that you ask, it's literally just a spicy soup that got bunch of many different kinds of spices and herbs that make it super spicy and herby more like you get it out of the jungle. Does that make any sense #lol
This one also new to me. Not the jungle soup itself but the combination of the main ingredients they choose to put in there. Small pieces of shrimps with shredded green papaya. I seriously have never tried that combination but gotta say it was a good match so, Way Beyond Pad Thai approved! (if that's even a thing T^T)
This one is a little weird one. I have never tried it and they don't even have it in the menu. My uncle happens to be the restaurant owner's friend so we gotta try a special dish. This time he offered rab meat coconut milk...
I have never had. I have never seen. It's a dish that's full of crab meat, like whole big chunks (which I likey like! #hehe ) Topped with flavored coconut milk. Really mild flavor I would say. I'm sure this could be a lot of foreigners' fav because how not spicy or herby at all of the dish but for me, this is not something I would re-order in the future.
Don't get me wrong! It's good! It's just a little too mild for my liking :)
Funny name, isn't it? #lol :) This one just simply boil the cockles but make sure it's not over cooked. You want this dish to be kinda a little bit bloody still just to taste the sweetness and the freshness of the seafood.
You can eat it like that alone but for more flavor, we add this thing we'd like to call it 'seafood sauce'. Lots of chilis, lots of garlic, fish sauce, lime juice and maybe some cilantro? This kind of sauce you literally eat with all kinds of seafood and that's why we call it just that, 'seafood sauce'.
All time fav! Every seafood place we go, this is a must-order kind of dish. You can't go wrong with curry, we you? Whole bunch of crab meat (yes, again, chunky ones) then stir fry with lots of eggs and curry sauce.
It doesn't look the most pleasant one but I promise most of you will like it! It's herby, a little bit of spices, not too spicy but all together, it's just umami!
This one probably my most fav! Haha, how many time have I say that in this post. This one for real though, it's naturally delicious! No need to cook, because FRESH OYSTER IS THE BEST WAY TO EAT OYSTER. #fact
Anyways, we add some flavors though. I know a lot of countries would just squeeze some lime/lemon juice and sprinkle a bit of salt in but here in Thailand, add more stuff. Sweet Chili paste, lime juice (I personally prefer adding seafood sauce so I got that spicy hint). Put that whole spoon in your mouth then followed with a few branches of acacia.
Literally the best combination of they way of eating fresh oysters. Guaranteed.
Now.. where my beer at? :D
Last thought about Pu Pen (ปูเป็น) Seafood restaurant, totally a restaurant to visit if you ever pass by Pattaya, Thailand. The seafood is real fresh, the food is flavorful. Both the area and the food are clean. Not to mention how awesome is that view while eating. It's just right across the beach from the sea, can you see!
