The wolves are at the door for millions and millions of people worldwide. As the shape of this crisis changes and morphs like a kaleidoscope so does the imminent danger to human beings affected by the lockdown and not because of just Covid19..
Although the government is cutting checks and making electronic deposits to Americans courtesy of the stimulus packages into Americans bank accounts, there are delays with unemployment checks as massive amounts of people are attempting to apply for the promised benefits. Small business owners are taking out loans to pay employees and employees are angry because it's better for them to get unemployment and sit home than to work since they will get an extra $600 a week on unemployment.
I am shaking my head in consternation. I was raised to work for everything. There is no such thing as a free lunch...until NOW. I am working full time. My $1200 came without a hitch my hand bag isn't empty yet, even after I paid off bills.
The global economy has screeched to a halt and peoples are anxiously waiting. There is food in the stores, but not as much as before and many items are missing.
People who need elective surgeries cannot get them until the economy opens up again.
Some states are already opening. Others, like Pennsylvania where I live, are continuing to be closed with a promise of eventual phased opening.
My landlady has not worked since this all began. She owns a small business and this is the money she's depending on to save for retirement right around the corner. She tried repeatedly to apply for unemployment but... surprise, surprise, the website was not working. I don't know if she was successful yet, but it's very disconcerting that she cannot provide for herself.
I'm one of the lucky ones that can work from home. I definitely make sure to thank God for the food that I eat right now. In the past, when I was spoiled, I might forget to say grace. I'm back in the habit again. I have a lot to be thankful for.
