Jim had fallen asleep reading his favorite author and awoke to the phone ringing. He stayed laying in his recliner for a moment then noticed another sound. He got up and grabbed the cordless phone as he headed to answer the banging at the front door.
"Jim Weyer. Who's calling?"
"Chief, I'm glad I finally got ahold of you. It's Dane...."
Jim reached the door and opened it to find Collin, one of his officers at tye door.
"It's Gracie Chief. She's in the hospital." He said before anyone could say another word.
"Dane, are you calling about Gracie?"
"Yes Chief. I have been trying to reach you since they told me you left for the day. How did you know?"
"Collin is at my door. What hospital did they take her to?"
Both men responded at the same time. Jim hung up the phone and laid it on the table near the door.
"Collin, how did you get here?"
"I'm still on duty so I brought the squad car."
"Good. You can drive me to the hospital."
Jim pulled his keys from his pocket and locked the door behind him. Since Parkway Hospital was in another district it took them almost an hour to get there. During the drive Collin filled Jim in on the information they had so far.
Once they got to the hospital Collin parked by the front door and both men went inside. At the desk Jim flashed the badge he kept pinned to his wallet off duty. He never knew when he would need it. He gave the woman at the desk Gracie's name and was told where to find her.
They took the elevator up to the third floor and found the room easy enough. He was surprised to see that Shauna was already there.
Shauna stood up and crossing the room wrapped her arms around Jim.
"They won't tell us anything."
"Well now that I'm here maybe we can get some answers. And so you know the investigation is on going. Anything my men find will be relayed to me as soon as it is discovered."
