Howdy Freewriters🤗! Some warnings come as whispers. Mine came before a fall that nearly claimed my life. Welcome to my 5 Minute freewrite blog🙂.
I held the door of the pit latrine, desperate to release myself. Standing outside, a strange thought crossed my mind: “What if I fall?” It was just a thought; or maybe it was a warning.
I stepped in carefully, trying not to miss the wooden boards that held the surface. But maybe I had already missed my memo. As I unzipped my trousers, I felt the boards give way beneath me.
The fall felt endless. This is it, I thought. My very last day. I haven’t even checked on my son.
But somewhere in the chaos, God’s grace found me. I landed on a single timber stretched across the pit. It held me. I tried to scream, but no sound came. My trembling hands reached for my jacket, where my phone sat. Miraculously, there was signal underground.
I called my Mama. With panic in my voice, I told her what happened. She rushed to get help while I held still, terrified that any shift in weight would send me under.
When they pulled me out, I pinched myself to be sure. I wasn’t quite dead. I had survived.
I didn’t break down until I got home. There, my little boy met me with his laughter, full of joy and innocence, clueless to how close he had come to losing me. In that moment, I broke - not from fear, but from gratitude. God had given me a second chance to live and to raise my child.
Thank you for reading❤️. Have a wonderful weekend.
