Are these sea lions feeling ennui or just basking in the sunlight?
Today I was feeling a touch of ennui. I woke up this morning without a desire to do anything in particular, so I started looking through my photo collection and now here I am.
I felt lazy.
Considered going back to bed.
These sleeping beauties resonated with me. Sleep, eat, swim, repeat. Sometimes I think humans work a little too much. Hard work is good; too much is not. Between working two jobs, taking care of the pups, and housework, sometimes the weekend gets here and I have no energy left.
Sometimes I feel like this black and white photo. Bright waves crashing against dark rocks, and the sea lions just want to sleep. They don't care.
Why do sea lions sleep so much? Are they depressed? Do they have no energy? I don't know. All I can do is wonder in fascination. These sea lions live in La Jolla, California. Twice I have gone to La Jolla Cove to watch them in their natural habitat and stare in amazement. I'm so curious…
They're mammals, but they have fins! Yes, I know that also describes dolphins and whales; but sea lions don't look like other sea mammals. To me they look like a cross between a puppy and a fish. They even behave a little like dogs. Some of them are cuddly, but others get annoyed and bark at the cuddly ones. They wrestle, roll around, scratch their backs. I could watch them all day.
So what will I do with the rest of my weekend?
Looking around for something to catch my eye.
