During a walk through the vegetation of Peñas Altas Park in Matanzas, I noticed this small visitor moving among the flowers of a romerillo plant. It was a honey bee, busy exploring the flower and searching for food.
Although it is a very common insect, seeing it up close reminded me of how much life can be found in the vegetation around us. Bees play an essential role as pollinators, moving from flower to flower and contributing to the reproduction of many plants.
I took six photographs of the bee, trying to capture some of its details while it remained on the flower. The identification as Apis mellifera is still tentative, but I decided to record the observation on iNaturalist so that it could be reviewed and contribute to the documentation of local biodiversity.
Sometimes, observing nature is simply a matter of stopping for a moment and paying attention to what is happening on a single flower.

Durante un recorrido por la vegetación del Parque Peñas Altas, en Matanzas, encontré a este pequeño visitante moviéndose entre las flores de un romerillo. Era una abeja, ocupada explorando la flor y buscando alimento.
Aunque es un insecto bastante común, observarlo de cerca me recordó cuánta vida podemos encontrar en la vegetación que tenemos a nuestro alrededor. Las abejas cumplen una función esencial como polinizadoras, pasando de una flor a otra y contribuyendo a la reproducción de muchas plantas.
Tomé seis fotografías de la abeja, tratando de captar algunos de sus detalles mientras permanecía sobre la flor. La identificación como Apis mellifera todavía es tentativa, pero decidí registrar la observación en iNaturalist para que pueda ser revisada y contribuir a la documentación de la biodiversidad local.
