The cause of Carlos' delirium

At least three days had passed since the last apparition. Carlos was in the upper part of his room when he saw through the window a man in dark clothes staring at him without even looking away. He grabbed the revolver he had under his bed and leaned out, firing a shot into the air with the intention of scaring the stranger away.

Although the man had already fled, the shot abruptly awoke the warm sleep of Camila, his wife, who shared the bed next to him. Carlos, as if trying to hide something, only told her that he was just another drug addict among the many that roam the neighborhood, and that there was no need to make a big deal out of it.

That night the rain became more and more intense, but far from relaxing Carlos, it made him more restless, as he still persisted in trying to remember the last moments in which he saw that guy. In his mind he saw a face that was both sad and amazed at the same time, with a strange appearance.

The next day he felt out of energy, as he had spent the whole night without being able to sleep, and he had to get ready for work. An uncomfortable silence invaded the daily breakfast he shared with his wife, this time overwhelmed by a door slamming without even saying goodbye to her. Minus the kiss that would ensure a great day.

Once at work, the problems with his colleagues did not take long to arrive. He was very irritable, and in the course of an afternoon he had already developed a notable psychosis among which an apparent paranoia could be observed. He distrusted his co-workers, so much so that he began to assault them, thinking that at some point they would kill him.

He also heard voices that were inconclusive but of a demonic tone, signifying that a death would be coming into his life. Because of the unacceptable behavior of a man out of his mind, his boss decided to fire him, or at least give him some time by leaving a letter on his office desk. Everything in Carlos' life was quickly falling apart.

As he left the building he heard a scream that alerted all his senses. It came from the terrace and he managed to see the diffuse silhouette of the man who appeared at the door of his house. He wanted answers and would do whatever it took to get them, so he went to the top of that place.

For some strange reason, he ignored everyone there, pushing them out of his way. Behind him ran the security forces, who beyond doing their job of preventing people from accessing restricted places, did not want him to get hurt.

However, nothing and no one could stop him and Carlos jumped from a height of seven stories. At that precise moment he remembered that it was a classmate whom he had pushed from a very high cliff over the sea while playing one of his pranks 20 years ago.

The authorities investigated the case and classified it as a possible suicide. The truth is that no one else will ever know if the man Carlos saw was real or imaginary, as it was never known if the man survived. The probabilities of survival for any person would be negligible, or perhaps it could be a great miracle.
