Wer hätte das gedacht? Die Libra Association macht eine große Kehrtwende, um die Regulatoren zu besänftigen.
Vor lauter absurden Shutdown-Nachrichten hätte ich dieses wichtige Update der Libra Association fast verpasst. Libra wollte ursprünglich Anfang 2020 mit einem eigenen globalen Stablecoin starten, der an mehrere Fiat-Währungen in einem Währungs-Korb gebunden wäre.
Dieses innovative Konzept für einen globalen währungsübergreifenden Stablecoin stieß auf heftigen regulatorischen Gegenwind, da es die Rolle des U.S. Dollars weiter schwächen würde, so die Befürchtung vieler amerikanischer Politiker und Notenbanker.
Jetzt hat Libra eine Kehrtwende vollzogen und ein neues Konzept vorgelegt, das die Regulatoren umstimmen könnte. Und zwar setzt Libra nicht mehr auf einen Währungskorb, sondern möchte für einzelne Fiat-Währungen wie den U.S. Dollar, Pfund oder Euro jeweils einen eigenen Libra-Stablecoin anbieten.
Mit dieser Änderung und wenn Libra alle weiteren regulatorischen Auflagen erfüllt, könnte Libra tatsächlich noch in diesem Jahr an den Start gehen.
Mit einer echten, offenen, Zensur- und Inflations-resistenten Kryptowährung wie Bitcoin haben auch diese neuen Libra-Stablecoins nicht viel zu tun. Vielmehr würde sich Libra mit diesem Schritt komplett den Fiat-Währungen und Notenbanken unterwerfen.

Who would have thought that? The Libra Association is making a huge U-turn to appease the regulators.
With all the insane Coronavirus Shutdown news, I almost missed this important update from the Libra Association. Libra originally wanted to start in early 2020 with its own global stablecoin, which would have been backed by several fiat currencies represented in a currency basket.
This innovative concept for a global, cross-currency Stablecoin met with strong regulatory headwinds as it would further weaken the role and threaten the hegemony of the U.S. dollar, many U.S. policymakers and central bankers feared.
Now Libra has made a big U-turn and presented a new concept that could change the regulators' minds. Libra no longer insists and relies on a basket of currencies, but intends to offer separate Libra-based stablecoins for each individual fiat currency such as the U.S. dollar, Pound or Euro.
With this change, and if Libra meets all other regulatory requirements, Libra could indeed launch this year in my opinion.
Also these newly presented Libra Stablecoins have little to do with a true, open, censorship- and inflation-resistant cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. Rather, Libra would submit completely to the Fiat currencies and central banks with this step.
