According to drive.com.au, Volkswagen is working on a sporty version of the Id.2 GTI. Probably only a front-wheel drive version with a power of about 166 kW will be created, because this platform does not support the twin-engine version due to the costs, which in this class are to be as low as possible. However in an interview with Australian media in March 2023, Cupra (Volkswagen's sub-brand) global boss Wayne Griffiths said that it is considering its twin-engine version of the ID.2. However, such modifications are quite expensive and the future of the model is very uncertain.
Volkswagen announces acceleration below 7.0 seconds from zero to 100 km/h and a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
