There is a reason why I am fundamentally optimistic about people and about the future of human societies, and that reason is basically that I believe the human naturally tends to good.
The premise is simple; since the human wants what is good for himself, the good in itself is what best satisfies this need, because the good is, contrary to the approach given by some religions and philosophies, practical, that is, the good brings good practical results to those who practice it.
Everything is based on understanding that good is the best possible option at all times. And evil, on the contrary, is the fruit of ignorance, because doing evil gives rise to bad results, worse results than those caused by good, and nobody knowingly does something that will bring bad results, that's why the evil is the fruit of ignorance and this latter is, of course, the mother of all evils.
The position I hold is called "moral intellectualism", and it is based on believing that it only takes knowing the good, understanding it, to be good. If you understand why good things are good, you will understand why they are better, this is because we call good things good, because they are indeed better for us.
Evil on the other hand, is not only the product of ignorance, but also, by causing bad results to those who do it, it is in turn self-destructive. By doing evil, we should not only worry about going to hell (if you believe in it), but at the same time of creating it, because it is a law in nature that the similar with the similar always unite and birds of a feather flock together, therefore, we are not only with people who are like us after our death, but during our lives. In this way, bad with bad, and good with good, we create our own environment.
You can satisfy physical needs by stealing and walking crooked roads, but you can never satisfy more intimate and superior needs like the psychic needs that are hidden in each one of us. Don't expect to find peace for the torments of life or tranquility doing what is not correct, because you will only see them increase. Don't expect to be happy doing evil, because as the old maxim says, happiness consists in the practice of virtue.
That is the reason why I see the world of humans with optimistic glasses, because I understand, or think I understand, that evil is a defect and good is a strength.
