I read this book a long time ago, but I feel it's one of those that always stays with you, and every time you read it, you gain a new concept that can help you in your daily life. The book tells the story of Santiago, a young Spanish shepherd, specifically from Andalusia, who begins to have recurring dreams about hidden treasures in the pyramids of Egypt. So, without further ado, one day he sets off on a journey to try to find these treasures. At the beginning of his journey, he sells sheep to use the money to reach Tangier, in North Africa, but there he is robbed and forced to work in a crystal shop to recover his lost money. Along the way, he encounters challenges, but also makes friends and even finds love.
Este libro lo leí hace mucho tiempo pero siento que es de esos de los que siempre se quedan contigo y cada vez que los lees consigues un nuevo concepto que te puede ayudar en tu vida cotidiana. El libro nos cuenta la historia de Santiago, un joven pastor español, especificamente andaluz, el cuál comienza a tener sueños recurrentes con tesoros escondidos en las pirámides de Egipto, así que sin más, un día emprendió el viaje para tratar de hallar dichos tesoros. A inicio de su viaje el vende ovejas para usar el dinero para llegar a Tánger, en el Norte de Africa, pero allí lo roban y él se ve forzado a trabajar en una tienda de cristales para recuperar el dinero perdido, y así sucesivamente va encontrando desafíos pero también amigos e incluso el amor.
The young Santiago's dream is like that dream that everyone has or should have, the motivation that drives them to live life to the fullest. What is our mission? To pursue that dream; that should be our greatest motivation, because in that process of discovery and consolidation is where we find learning and friendships. As they say, everything in life happens for a reason, so Santiago found challenges in his life (as we find them daily), but there is also learning and many positive things that provide balance.
El sueño del joven Santiago viene siendo en la vida real como ese sueño que cada quién tiene o debería tener, la motivación que lo impulse a vivir plenamente, ¿cuál es nuestra misión? perseguir ese sueño, esa debería ser nuestra mayor motivación, porque en ese proceso de descubrimiento y consolidación es donde hallaremos aprendizajes y amistades, como dicen, todo en la vida sucede por alguna razón, así que Santiago encontró en su vida retos (como nosotros los encontramos a diario) pero también hay aprendizje y mucha cosas positivas que sierven de equilibrio.
There are some interesting concepts in this book that I had heard before, but they had never been explained to me in such detail. On the one hand, we have The Soul of the World: which refers to the fact that there is undoubtedly a spiritual force that connects everything. Some call it "God," others "Destiny," but the point is that this invisible force causes certain people and places to connect in some way.
Hay algunos conceptos interesantes en este libro que yo había oído antes pero nunca antes me los habían explicado con tanto detalle, por un lado tenemos El Alma del Mundo: lo cual se refiere a que indudablemente existe una fuerza espirirual que lo conecta todo, algunos le llamamos "Dios" otros "Destino" pero el caso es que esta fuerza invisible hace que ciertas personas y lugares se conecten de alguna manera
And the other concept is "Maktub," an Arabic word that literally means "It is written." This concept basically suggests that there is a guide in the universe that leads us to certain destinations. Even though our decisions are influential and allow us to forge our own path, there is an element that sustains and guides us. I must confess that the first time I heard the term wasn't in this novel, but in a soap opera that aired some years ago.
Y el otro concepto es el "Maktub" una palabra árabe que significa literalmente "Está Escrito" y este concepto sugiere basicamente que existe una guia en el universo que nos conduce hasta ciertos destinos, por más que nuestras decisiones sean influyentes y que con ellas podeos forjarnos nuestro propio camino, existe un elemento que nos sostiene y nos conduce. Debo confesar que la primera vez que oí el término no fue en esta novela, sino en una telenovela que transmitieron hace algunos años.
