Arabian Nights [ESP/ENG]

The great Sultan Shahriar was betrayed by his first wife, which drove him mad with rage and grief. He became a ruthless and deranged man, and as revenge, he decided to marry a virgin woman every night and execute her the following morning. However, a noblewoman decided to put an end to this barbarity. This was Scheherazade, the vizier's daughter. She volunteered to marry the Sultan, but to avoid being executed and to prevent the Sultan from executing more women, she devised a clever strategy. Each night she told the Sultan a story, but as dawn approached, she left the tale unfinished, further fueling his curiosity. And so, a thousand and one nights passed. After that time, the Sultan and Scheherazade had three children, and he fell in love with her, making her his queen and wife forever.

Luego de ese tiempo el Sultán y Sherezade ya han tenido tres hijos y él logró enamorarse de ella, convirtiéndola en su reina y esposa por siempre.

This book is actually a compilation of many stories from medieval times. Many of these tales reached the West and seeped into popular culture, passed down from generation to generation and even adapted for film, theater, and television, such as Aladdin and his Magic Lamp, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and Sinbad the Sailor. In this sense, I find its narrative style fascinating; it's a "framed story," meaning it contains stories within the main narrative, and I personally think that this doubly captures the reader's attention.

I believe the story aims to make us reflect on the enormous power of words, and especially art, in this case through oratory. We all know that storytelling is an art, and Scheherazade knew it too. So she put all her effort into creating fantastical stories to keep the Sultan entertained. But this also speaks to the admirable cunning of women and how it compensates for their lack of physical strength. Scheherazade doesn't try to use force to impose her will; she doesn't shout, she doesn't try to be assertive or impulsive. She simply uses reason, logic, and cunning, and with these elements, she demonstrated that she was significantly superior to the Sultan.

On the other hand, I think the book can serve as a metaphor for how fiction can often save lives; oratory, literature, and art in general have immeasurable power, capable of achieving what a thousand swords cannot. Therefore, I consider this one of the greatest classics of all time.
