When I first joined Ecency, honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. I had heard a lot about Hive, blogging, and earning tokens, but it all sounded a little confusing. Thirty days later, I can tell you this — it’s not just about writing; it’s about learning, connecting, and growing. Let me share my experience like I would if you were sitting right here beside me.
Lesson 1: Consistency Beats Perfection
In my first week, I kept worrying if my posts were “good enough.” Should I sound professional? Should I write like a blogger with big English? Guess what? The posts that got the most engagement were the ones I wrote simply, like I was telling a story to a friend.
I learned that showing up consistently matters more than chasing perfection. One post every few days built more trust and interaction than waiting until I had a “perfect” post.
Lesson 2: Community Is Everything.
I was early to Cinetv and Hive Naija and that made the difference. I no longer felt like I was screaming in the darkness, but I had people who read, commented, and motivated me.
With Ecency, it does not simply go to the world with your post, it goes to communities. Imagine it is a group chat where people have common interests.
Lesson 3: Engagement is a Two Way Street.
I will be honest, during the first week, I was only posting and waiting. However, with time I began to comment on what other people posted, upvoting, and even had to ask questions. And that is when the fun began to happen. Individuals literally returned to my page and subscribed to me, and interacted more with my posts.
It is exactly like in real life: when you speak about yourself all the time, people get bored. However, it is the listening and interaction in which the relationship develops.
Lesson 4: Rewards Are Sweet, but Learning Is Sweeter
Yes, I earned my first Hive tokens (and it felt really good seeing them in my wallet 😅). But beyond the rewards, I learned a lot — how to structure my writing, how to use tags, how to tell better stories.
The tokens are like fuel, but the knowledge is the real treasure.
Lesson 5: Curiosity Keeps You Moving
Some days I didn’t know what to write. But then I tried new things: sharing personal experiences, writing about trending news, even trying out creative stories. The more I experimented, the more I understood what my audience enjoyed.
My Takeaway After 30 Days
Ecency isn’t just another social platform. It is a place where your words do count, where you can build a community around your ideas, and where learning is an ongoing process.
And so, if you are new, I say this:
Write as though you were speaking to a friend.
Become part of a community (Hive Naija is a nice place to begin and be, provided that you are Nigerian 😉).
Don’t just post—engage.
Enjoy the learning process.
Call to Action
I’m still learning every day. So let me ask you: what’s the one thing you’d like to know before starting your own Ecency journey? Drop your question in the comments, and I’ll share from my experience.
