3 Weird Ways To Care Less And Enjoy Life More – Cole Hastings
I’ve always envied little children, and the reason is that they look so free. They are neither bothered by the problems of life nor do they care about what others think about them. They look happy, act happy, spread joy around and have lots of fun. To an extent, they act crazy, and guess what, they don’t care. Because of this, they enjoy life more.
So, for you to feel your existence on this planet, you must act a little crazy at times. You’ll need to lose touch with reality sometimes. You’ll need to act contrary to your conditioned mind. I know it sounds crazy. This is exactly what this article is all about, and the tips I’ll be sharing will make the difference if you try them.
I will be sharing with you 3 weird ways to care less and enjoy life more. Let’s move.
Do It Alone
Do an activity meant to be done with others completely alone. We live in a "fit-in" society, and this is not a surprise. Everything we do in society is somewhat influenced by the norms and standards that we see on a daily basis. Because of this, when you decide to be different or do some activities alone, it looks weird to people, and our insecurities force us to conform to the norms and standards society has set for us. So the next time you’re hesitating to do something you want to do, that is of no harm to yourself or others, but it isn’t considered normal, remember this: “Normality is Insanity” and do it anyway.
Never put yourself in a position where you have to decide what you can and cannot do because you believe you need someone there to do it with you.
Purposefully Embarrass Yourself
Lolz. I know this sounds crazy. Okay, let me rephrase it to “Do something baffling on purpose in front of others.” Cole Hasting talked about how he laid on the floor in a public place where lots of people were gathered and they all thought he was crazy. By doing that, he challenged himself to step out of his comfort zone.
Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga shared an eye-opening research that a psychologist named Robert Cialdini conducted in one of the chapters of their book "The Courage to Be Disliked", and from that research, he was able to identify one such goal that everyone sets; the goal to behave consistently with your past actions. This explains why it is a herculean task to do or try something different from what you've been doing before.
The more you get yourself acquainted with doing random things in public, the easier it becomes to develop courage.
By embarrassing yourself purposefully in public, you give yourself permission not to take things too seriously and also laugh at yourself for being clumsy, which sometimes is a good thing.
Paradoxically, this improves your confidence.
So next time you find yourself around your peers or in a public place, you can sing a song even if you don’t have a nice voice, but don't sing too loud, lolz. The goal is to kill the feeling of shame which in turn gives you the leverage to be electric around people.
Do More Things Without A Purpose
Sometimes, people want to know the reason behind everything you do, and just to be clear, I’m not saying you shouldn’t have a direction in life. All I’m saying is that it's okay to do things for the sake of doing them. As long as what you’re doing isn’t wrong or harmful to you or anyone else, it is sometimes fun to just do things.
For example, I can decide to dance alongside a song simply because I want to dance. This makes us present at the moment without always trying to reach out to a distant goal or purpose all the time. It allows us to have a different experience within ourselves. So the next time a friend asks you why you did what you did, well, you can just say “no reason” or “I just feel like doing it”.
