This last on-call shift was a memorable one for me. This all started with my office getting a major overhaul. As you can see from this picture, there isn't much left.
This area used to be filled with work stations, people, the breakroom and some bathrooms. Now they are all gone. During this construction period we re housed in a Temporary Trailer in the parking lot.
Saturday night I was working my normal shift from 3pm-1am when I got the call. Our AC power room (on the other side of the building in this pic) had a high temp alarm. This was the first time I'd been in here since construction started.
Being in a hurry, I headed to the site in my Pajama's. It was around midnight when I headed to the site. When I got to the building I opened the door and turned to the right. On the wall, there used to be the building alarm panel. It was gone.
I didn't think anything of it and headed back to the power room. Soon after the long walk to the back, THE FREAKING ALARM STARTED GOING OFF!!!
I know what this means. If I can't get it shut off in 15 seconds, the cops are coming. And that is exactly what happened.
I walked out to the front of the building at greeted them at the front door. On my way to the door I noticed where they moved the alarm panel. They had some questions for me and did give me some odd looks. After proving who I was and why I was there, they took off. I was able to get the AC room cooled down with a large industrial fan and the alarm cleared.
Just when you think the story is over. I figured what the heck, I'm already here, I'll just work out of the construction trailer out front.
Got the lockbox opened up and got my computer setup inside. After about an hour I was ready for a smoke break. Without thinking, I strolled on out of the trailer.
No one told me it would lock behind me.
Now it's nearly 1am, I'm in my PJ's and locked out of my work trailer. I tried to break in with a pocket knife I had, with no luck. Got on the phone and woke up my boss. Luckily there was a spare key in the old office and he got a good laugh at me expense.
I hope you enjoyed the story of my latest life fiasco. I'm sure I'll have more soon.
