Many Bulgarian customs dedicated to the approaching spring are connected with the beginning of March.
Today, young and old give each other martenitsa - twisted white and red cotton thread. White symbolizes purity and a new beginning, and red symbolizes life, energy of the sun and fertility.
Happy March 1st to all who celebrate Baba Marta 馃槉.
